Abstract

1,100,127. Stapling machines. J. J. OUSSANI. 7 April, 1965 [8 April, 1964], No. 14838/63. Heading B4C. A solenoid-operated stapler comprises a stapling mechanism 13 mounted over a working surface 11 having a recess 25 engageable by a finger 33 of a trip lever 32 for a switch 20, the trip lever being moved, upon insertion of a workpiece W into the stapler, to close the switch and thereby energize the solenoid. The trip lever 32 which is pivoted on a switch housing 30 has pivoted thereon an arm 35 normally urged by a spring 39 to a position in which an end 38 of the arm is adjacent a switch contact 49, as shown in Fig. 6; the arm may be made of insulating material and an upper surface 40 on the end 38 is adapted to be burnished by a stop 41 during closing of the contact 49 with a fixed contact 48. In operation, the trip lever is moved by the workpiece so that the arm abuts the contact and the switch. Movement of the solenoid causes a plate 19 on the stapler to engage the end 55 of a slide 50 which, via a pin-and-slot arrangement, moves downwardly to release the pivoted arm 35 and open the switch; the position of the switch may be varied by releasing a clamping knob 22.
