Abstract

1,199,588. Imparting improved elasticity to woven fabrics. NIPPON RAYON CO. Ltd. 26 Oct., 1967 [28 Oct., 1966], No. 48836/67. Headings D1P; D1S. A woven textile fabric composed of thermoplastic yarns at least in its weft direction having improved elasticity is produced by (a) providing a fabric in which the density of the warp yarns before treatment is 60-80% of that of the warp yarns of the finished fabric, (b) scouring and then heat-setting the fabric to shrink it by 20-40% in its weft direction, the fabric being scoured and heat-set under a tension of 20-- 80 Kg/m in its warp direction to bend the weft yarns strongly, and (c) shrinking the fabric by 0.5-5% in its warp direction. The fabric may be composed of filaments or staple fibres of a polyether ester containing 85 mol % of ethylene terephthalate unit and 15 mol % of ethylene oxybenzoate unit, polyethylene terepthalate, nylon 6 or polyacrylonitrile or a blend thereof which may be in admixture with viscose rayon or polynosic fibres. A pad-streamer or open-soaper capable of treating the fabric in its spread state may be used in the scouring operation and a roller-type heat-setting machine capable of stretching the fabric in its warp direction without any restriction in its weft direction may be used for heat-setting. In the final shrinking step the fabric may be treated in a short loop drier. in which there is no tension in the warp direction or the fabric may be shrunk under compulsion using a rubbertype compactor. Dyeing with a dispersed dye optionally in admixture with a vat dye, or resin treatment may be carried out at the same time or after heat-setting. The resin treatment composition may comprise a cellulose reactive resin, a melamine resin, a silicon softener agent, a polyethylene softening agent, zinc nitrate and water.
