Abstract
1,197,571. Boots &c. BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO. Ltd. 11 Aug., 1967 [12 May, 1966], No. 21102/66. Heading A3B. [Also in Division B5] A method of injection moulding a bottom on to a shoe includes the following steps: (i) forming an upper (U) with an outturned peripheral flange (86), (ii) positioning the upper on a foot form, (iii) locating the foot form against a recess 14 in a sole mould member 12 and (iv) causing side members 36, 37 to move arcuately to engage the upper around its peripheral flange to seal the flange around the recess. The side members 36, 37 carry welt plates 43 having projecting portions adapted to press the flange (86) into engagement with a surface 13 surrounding the recess 14 in the sole mould member 12. The side members 36, 37 are moved by means of pivoted linkage 70, 72 in two stages, first an arcuate movement about pins 50, 51, then a linear movement towards one another. The pins 50, 51 on which the side members 36, 37 are mounted, extend through bores 63 in carrier blocks 57-60 which are slidably received in recesses in the members 12, 36 and 37. The carrier blocks are biased outwardly of the sole mould member 12 by springs 32.
