Abstract

1,197,025. Burners. KONINKLIJKE NEDERLANDSCHE HOOGOVENS EN STAALFABRIEKEN N.V. 4 July, 1968 [6 July, 1967; 13 March, 1968], No. 32038/68. Heading F4T. [Also in Division G3] A duct, e.g. leading to burners in a metallurgical furnace, comprises an air inlet 2, discharge orifices 4, and downstream of each orifice a flow restrictor 5, the restrictors being successively narrower and further from the orifices 4 in the direction of flow. A restrictor 5 can also be placed upstream of the first orifice 4 in a straight duct portion 6 that has a length at least 17 times the duct diameter D. The duct is of circular or rectangular section and can be metal or brick. In the latter case an orifice is formed by metal strips 8 bolted to anchors 7 so as to leave passageways adjacent the inner wall of the duct. The strips 8 can pass sealingly to the outside of the duct, and be welded to a metal duct casing. A balancing strip 10 can be adjusted to a correct position and then welded at 11 to the outer metal casing. The restrictors can be formed by a sieve plate or gauze, and the first can be omitted. The restrictors can be placed the same distance downstream of each orifice. The inlet can be placed at the centre of the duct at 16.
