Abstract

1,197,081. Valves. MARKES & CO. Ltd. 29 April, 1968 [8 April, 1967], No. 16201/67. Heading F2V. A " non-rising spindle " tap has a stationary tubular head 32 with a groove 68 to engage a projection 70 on the spindle and prevent axial movement thereof, the projection being disengageable from the groove by transverse movement when the spindle is not connected to a closure member 20. The valve is assembled by inserting the spindle 62, with the circular eccentric projection 70, into the head 32, and moving it transversely until the axes of the two parts are aligned, and then screwing the closure member 20 on to the spindle, the diameter of the projection 70 being equal to, or less than, the mini mum width of a hexagonal portion of a bore 42 in the head 32, to facilitate this operation Seals 52, 79, 84 and 38 prevent leakage of the fluid in the valve. In Fig. 3, not shown, the closure member 20 is formed with a loose jumper (92) to prevent back-flow. Only one seal 79 or 84 may be used. The valve inlet can be axially aligned with the spindle. The head 32 may be of multi-piece construction. A knob 18 can be made from metal or plastics, and may be formed as a hand-wheel.
