Abstract
1,196,880. Cantilever concrete structures. P. FRANCO. 13 Nov., 1968 [14 Nov., 1967], No. 53896/68. Heading E1W. A building structure having a cantilever portion is constructed using a reinforced concrete slab comprising a main portion 1 adapted to be supported at opposite ends, and spaced from one end at least thereof, a cantilever slab portion 4 connected thereto by trussed metal reinforcing elements which are additionally stiffened in the space between the slab portions. The trussed metal reinforcing elements described comprise a pair of triangular sectioned lattice members each having a single longitudinal upper member connected by struts 7 to a pair of longitudinal lower members embedded in the slab portions 1 and 4, the additional stiffening being provided by struts 8 connecting the lower members in the space between the slab portions I and 4. The space between the portions 1 and 4 is slightly less than the width of a joist 3, for example of a bridge, which supports the end of the slab. Concrete poured over the slab and the joist 3 to cover the members 6 is confined by a side wall portion 9 on the slab portion 4.
