Abstract

1,195,466. Leno or fancy weaving apparatus. N. HODGKINSON. 13 Feb., 1969 [13 Feb., 1968], No. 7013/68. Heading D1E. Warp yarn packages 10, 11 are mounted on a rotating platform 12 and are themselves rotated oppositely, by sun and planet gears, so that the yarns coming from the packages have no change in their amount of twist, the yarns then pass through guide eyes which twist the yarns together, through a tensioner 8 and a device 6 which compensates for changes in tension during shedding, the yarns then separate and pass through eyes 14 in a disc 5 that rotates at the same speed and in the same direction as the platform 12 and then pass through a leno shedding motion that results in either a half cross or a full cross weave. The leno shedding motion comprises rods that are oppositely shed by a cam-link and pulley arrangement, one rod having an upwardly directed hook 14 and the other a downwardly directed hook 13. If the disc 5 rotates at half loom speed each thread will engage alternate hooks to produce a leno weave with a half cross between the picks and if the disc 5 rotates at loom speed each thread will always engage the same hook to produce a leno weave with a full cross between each pick. The leno weaves may be at any position in the fabric and a loom is described which produces leno edge and centre selvedges.
