Abstract

1,195,041. Zinc O,O-dihexyl dithiophosphate complexes. MOBIL OIL CORP. 6 June, 1967 [6 June, 1966], No. 26064/67. Heading C2C. [Also in Division C5] A zinc carboxylate complex of a zinc oxide complex of a zinc dialkylphosphorodithioate in which each carboxylate group contains from 1 to 20 carbon atoms and in which the alkyl groups of the zinc dialkylphosphorodithioate are normal- or iso-hexyl groups is obtained by reacting an excess of zinc oxide with a dihexylphosphorodithioic acid, e.g. to form a zinc oxide complex of the formula [[(RO) 2 P(S)S]Zn] 4 ZnO wherein R is hexyl and then mixing the zinc oxide complex with the zinc carboxylate, preferably zinc acetate, at elevated temperature to cause co-ordination. The resulting complex may have the structure wherein R<SP>1</SP> is H or a C 1 to C 19 aliphatic hydrocarbyl group. The products are useful as additives to an automatic transmission fluid having an appropriate lubricating oil base.
