Abstract
1,193,850. Window fastenings. A. R. TAYLOR and R. L. HARRIS. 7 Nov., 1968 [7 Nov., 1967], No. 50524/67. Heading E2A. A window comprises a fixed frame 1 and a swinging frame 2 hinged hereto and swing- able through the fixed frame in both directions, in which the fixed frame carries a member 3 engaging a handle 4 on the swinging frame 2 whereby the latter may be fastened to the fixed frame in a position such that both frames lie in substantially one and the same plane, the member 3 including a stop 7 which is movable under the control of the handle between positioins in one of which it allows the swinging frame to swing freely through 'the fixed frame in both directions and in another of which it it prevents the swinging frame from swinging through and past the fixed frame. As shown in which the frame 2 is swingable about pivots (14), Fig. 6 (not shown) the stop 7 is pivoted to the member 3 on the fixed frame 1 and is biassed to one or the other of two positions by an overcentre spring (not shown) connected between points 9, 9. In the position shown, the stop member prevents the swinging frame 2 from swinging through the fixed frame 1 and the frame 2 may be locked in the closed position by engagement of a portion 10 of the handle 4 with the member 3 which is of box form. When the handle 4 is moved anticlockwise about its pivot 11 the portion 10 snaps the stop to its other position thereby allowing the frame 2 to swing through the frame 1. The parts are restored to the positions shown, by rotation of the handle clockwise after moving the frame 2 into the same plane as that of the frame 1. The handle 4 comprises a pin 41 which carries a grooved sleeve 43 retained on the pin by a dowel 44. The sleeve 43 includes a projection 45 which is engaged (between projections 46 of a disc 47, slidable on the pin 41. A button 48 on the disc 47 extends through a hole 49 in the body of the handle, and the arrangement is such that rotation of the handle is possible only when the button is depressed against a spring to free the dlisc 47 from a dowel 51 with which one of three notches in the disc is engageable whereby to index the handle in one of three rotary positions. The frame 2 may be held open by a stay having pegs on the part attached to the frame 2, engageable with notches on the frame 1. Weather strips are provided on the hinged edge of the frame 2 and on the other edges of the frame 1.
