Abstract

1,192,725. Colour television tubes. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. 5 Feb., 1969 [8 Feb., 1968], No. 6168/69. Heading H1D. A colour television tube provided with a colour selection electrode supported from the envelope by at least one bimetallic strip, is characterized in that the bimetallic strip is formed of two strips joined edge-to-edge so that it is less responsive to shock. In Fig. 4 the bimetallic strip comprises a stainless steel member 2 and a member 3 of iron nickel alloy having substantially zero thermal expansion, the two members being welded along their edges, preferably electronically. The member 3 is provided with tags 4 and 5 which are bent over the edges of a frame 9 of a shadow mask, and the bimetallic strip is welded to the frame at the areas 11. An aperture 7 is adapted to fit round a projection in the wall of the tube (not shown). Preferably the shadow mask is supported by three such strips (Fig. 6, not shown). The member 3 need not extend along the whole length of member 2 (Fig. 7, not shown) and may alternatively be in the form of a circular sector (Fig. 8, not shown) or of a triangle (Fig. 9, not shown) fitting into corresponding recesses in the side of member 2.
