Abstract
1,191,187. Welding by fusion. MANNESMANN-MEER A.G. 20 Feb., 1968, No. 8137/68. Heading B3R. In a method of automatic electric welding steel or non-ferrous metal, weld metal is fed to the welding point simultaneously in two concentric paths, an inner and an outer path, and the thermal energy for welding is generated in the outer path by induction heating and in the inner path by an arc. An electrode comprises an inner circular part 11 connected to a continuous current circuit 13 and an outer annular part 10 heated by an induction coil 12 through which the electrode is fed by feeding device 9. The two parts 10, 11, which are of the same material, are secured together by a protective-gasevolving adhesive 11<SP>1</SP>. The workpiece 1, which may be a tube, is backed at the weld seam by a plate 2. The induction coil is cooled by a circulating coolant 7. Protective gas 4 may also be blown to the region of the weld.
