Abstract

1,180,202. Imidazothiazoles. RHONEPOULENC S.A. 7 Jan., 1969 [9 Jan., 1968; 6 Dec., 1968], No. 1021/69. Heading C2C. Novel compounds I in which R 1 is H or phenyl, R 2 is H or methyl and R 3 is H, phenyl or hydroxyphenyl and acid addition salts thereof are prepared by cyclization of a thiazolidine II Intermediates isolated are 2-imino-3-benzoylmethyl - 4 - methyl - 5 - phenylthiazolidine hydrobromide prepared from phenacyl bromide and 2 - imino - 4 - methyl - 5 - phenyl - thiazolidine (which is prepared from 1-methyl-2- chloro - 2 - phenyl - ethylamine and thiourea or by cyclization of 1 - benzoyl - 3 - (1 - methyl- 2 - hydroxy - 2 - phenethyl) - thiourea, which latter is prepared from norephedrine hydrochloride and benzoyl isothiocyanate; 2-imino- 3 - benzoylmethyl - 5 - phenylthiazolidine hydrobromide, and 2 - imino - 3 - [(4 - acetoxybenzoyl) methyl] - 4 - methyl - 5 - phenyl - thiazolidine hydrobromide which latter two compounds are prepared in a similar manner to the first-named intermediate. Pharmaceutical compositions comprise a compound I together with an excipient suitable for intranasal, oral or rectal administration as anti-viral agents.
