Abstract

1,178,083. Swimming propelling devices. M. A. STRUMOR. 12 June, 1968 [21 July, 1967], No. 28025/68. Heading A6D. [Also in Division B7] A marine propulsion-unit comprises a housing 12, Fig. 1, containing an electric motor for driving a propeller 16 and having a pair of rods 30 attached thereto, each of said rods being furnished with a handle 70, Fig. 4, on the free end of a section 38 that is pivotable upwardly into a vertical position in which it can be locked and fixed to a boat transom 74, whereby the unit can be used to propel either an underwater swimmer or a boat, as desired. The rods can be retracted into elongate recesses (32), Fig. 2 (not shown), within the housing; and the propeller may be provided with a guard (26). In a second embodiment, Fig. 5, the housing 112 has a single rod 116 pivotally attached thereto by pins 140 in the wall of a recess 114, a pair of hand grips 124, 126 being pivotable towards each other so that when the rod is in a vertical position the unit can be attached to a boat transom with the aid of a screwthreaded clamping element (150), Fig. 8 (not shown), lodged in a clamp holder 130 on the hand grip 126. The rod 116 can be locked in the vertical position.
