Abstract
1,173,775. Die-casting machines. DIE CASTING MACHINE TOOLS Ltd., and E. A. R MACE. 6 July, 1967 [6 Sept., 1966]. No. 39738/66. Heading B3F. In a die-casting machine in which a plunger 11 is initially moved slowly, then accelerated, during its movement to inject molten material 18 into a die cavity 15, means are provided to slow down the speed of the plunger 11 when it is retracted. A valve spool 101, used in the control of speeding up the movement of the plunger in its downward -movement, is attached to a piston 29 and has an enlarged upper portion 104 that passes into a cylinder 110 through a seal 105. In the cylinder is a well 112 having a port 117 that allows an hydraulic oil 111 to enter therein and an adjustable needle valve 116, and the well includes a relatively narrower portion formed by a shoulder 113 in which the upper portion 104 of the valve spool 101 is a slidingly sealing fit. On retraction of the plunger 11 its movement is slowed down when the said portion 104 enters the relatively narrower portion of the well 112 and the oil forced through the restricted opening of the needle valve 116. The arrangement of the diecasting machine is such that the plunger is slowed down just before a port 22 is uncovered by the retracting plunger 11 to prevent molten material 18 being drawn into the goose-neck passage 13 and spilling into the die part 16 when the die parts 16, 17 are separated.
