1,173,267. Instrument for biopsy. R. A. SCHEIDT. 12 June, 1968, No. 27977/68. Heading A5R. An instrument for collecting surface tissue cells from vaginal walls comprises a tube 5 having a closed end portion 7 adapted to hold a quantity of specimen suspending solution, said tube having at least one opening 8 through its side walls 6 at a distance from the closed end 7, and through which, in use, the adjacent portion of the vaginal wall protrudes, slideable plunger means 11 in the tube, and ridge means 14 on the plunger means to move past the opening in the side wall and into the specimen suspending solution, whereby, in use, the tissue cells are scraped off the inwardly protruding vaginal wall and deposited in the solution.
