Abstract

1,172,404. Pipe joints; pipe stoppers. HEPWORTH IRON CO. Ltd. 11 April, 1968 [21 April, 1967], No. 18406/67. Headings F2G and F2P. A pipe cap, stopper or joint 1 is of slightly resilient plastic material and is of cup shape so that it may fit over a plain pipe 5, Fig. 1, or within a socket 8, Fig. 2, its base 3 being flat and thin enough to be easily pierced for the insertion of another pipe. For external use as a cap, it has a recess 2 for housing a sealing ring of round shape 4 or of special form 12, Fig. 3, as described in Specification 1,123,852. For internal use, a sealing ring 7 rests against a shoulder 6. As shown in Fig. 3, the base 3 of an externally fitted cap is pierced and grommetted to receive a pipe 14, but in the case of an internal stopper, the groove 2, Fig. 2, carries a sealing ring to receive the other pipe (Fig. 5, not shown).
