Abstract

1,171,159. Cleaning floors, tanks &c. E. A. WAKEFIELD, V. E. WAKEFIELD and E. D. WAKEFIELD. 10 July, 1968 [25 April, 1967; 7 Feb., 1968], Nos. 18960/67 and 5973/68. Heading A4F. [Also in Division F1] A suction cleaner for removing liquid or silt from floors, tanks, drainage, channels, etc., includes a suction inducing device comprising a suction tube 4 passing through a chamber 1 having an inlet 7a for pressure fluid, e.g. compressed air, which passes via the chamber 1 through one or more orifice(s) 19 in the suction tube wall and is directed to the outlet 12.A of the suction tube to produce suction at its inlet 11A. The latter is coupled to a pipe carrying a suction nozzle, and the outlet 12A is connected to a pipe leading to a collecting tank. The orifices 19 illustrated are oblique slots arranged to direct the flow of pressure fluid to the outlet 12A. A jacket 13 surrounding the orifices 19 is rotatable to adjust the relative positions of slots 22, 23 through which the pressure fluid enters the jacket, thereby to control the flow of pressure fluid through the device. In an alternative form of the invention the orifices 19 are inclined in a direction opposite to that illustrated in Fig. 2 and suction is created in the tube 4 by a flow of pressure fluid over the outer ends of the orifices 19. In other constructions the orifices 19 are omitted and the pressure fluid enters the suction tube either through slots similar to the slots 22, 23 or through diametrically opposed openings in the tube 4, the flow through which openings are controlled by a manually adjustable sleeve.
