Abstract
1,167,769. Incandescent lamps. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. 27 Nov., 1967 [30 Nov., 1966], No. 53818/67. Heading H1F. [Also in Division C1] An incandescent lamp has a tubular bulb with a straight base part 1 in which the filament 6 extends and two end parts 2 at right-angles to this through which the lead-in wires 5 extend, the lead wires 5 being sealed in at the free ends of the parts 2 and supported at a region nearer to the filament than the seal by a resilient member 9 within the bulb. The member 9 may be in the form of a few turns of wire 11 tightly surrounding the lead-in wire and a few turns 10 of larger diameter fitting inside the tube. The parts 10 may be held in place by local depressions 12 in the wall of the bulb. The filament may be supported in the base part 1 by discshaped or helical members 8. The lead-in wires may be sealed in the ends of the tubes 2 by bead seals 3, the beads being made of glass having a coefficient of expansion between that of the lead-in wires and that of the bulb. Alternatively, the tube ends may be built up of successive rings of glass of increasing coefficients of expansion.
