Abstract

1,165,418. Container closures. W. LEEDS and L. A. MICALLEF, [trading as LEED & MICALLEF]. 6 June, 1967 [16 June, 1966], No. 26153/67. Heading B8T. A dispensing closure comprises a cap 29 rotatably mounted on a container mouth 23, and a base 26 incorporating a plug 24. A spout 28 passes through the base 26 and can rotate therein about an axis B, offset from the central axis A of the cap. In the closed position, Fig. 1, the spout 28 is completely enclosed by the cap 29, but on rotation of the latter, a cam 37, Fig. 8, rotates the spout 28 in such a way that the end 33 emerges from the cap 29 through an aperture 34. A part (35), Fig. 3 (not shown), fixed to the base 26, closes the aperture 34 when the cap is in the closure position with the spout 28 retracted, and also provides stopping means (35a, 35b) for the rotation of the spout 28. In order to close the container, the cap 29 is rotated in the direction D, Fig. 8, when first the edge of the aperture 34, and later a further cam 38, cause the spout 28 to turn and retract into the closure position. The spout 28 may be provided with an air-vent 51, and also has a valve arrangement 41. In a modification, Figs. 9-11 (not shown), the axis B may be set at an angle to the axis A. In a further modification, Figs. 13- 15 (not shown), suitable for use with aerosol cans, a support (61) is provided so that the aerosol valve (58) cannot be depressed when the cap is in the closure position. In any of the embodiments, the aperture 34 may initially be closed by a frangible seal.
