Abstract
116,503. Elektrochemische Werke Ges. March 23. 1917, [Convention date] Addition to 5281/11. Gases, treating with electric discharges.-The products of endothernic gas reactions, such as air containing nitric oxide, are removed from a furnace of the kind described in the parent Specification by means of a water-cooled tube g of such dimensions as to cool the gas to 1200-1500‹ C. in fractions of a second, and arranged so as not to act as an electrode. The gases pass through the tube g at a speed of hundreds of metres per second. The arc between electrodes E is .spread by the whirling gas currents from tangential nozzles C. When three-phase currents and three electrodes are employed, the discharge tube may extend close to the centre of the arc disk. The gases issuing from the tube may be employed to heat boilers.
