Abstract
1,161,859. Hydraulic stay. F.M.S. DISTRIBUTING CO. PTY. Ltd. 8 Dec., 1967, No. 56018/67. Heading E2F. A hydraulic stay for lids and doors comprises a cylinder 1 sealed at one end by a plug 2 and having a hole 4 for pivotal mounting on a stationary member, a piston rod 8 for pivotal mounting on a movable member, slidable in the bore 6 of an annular plug 5, and comprising a disc-like head 19 of smaller bore than the cylinder mounted on the reduced end 17, a sleeve 20 on the reduced end 17, a piston 21 slidably mounted on the sleeve 20, a latch 15 and a keeper 22 riveted to the reduced end for holding the assembly together. The piston 21 incorporates and O-ring 26 and has a central bore 27 of larger diameter than the sleeve 20 to provide a passage for liquid. The rim 24 of the head 19 has a fluid escape groove 25. A tubular catch 10 having a tapered head 13 is fixed in the cylinder adjacent the plug 5. In a modification (Fig. 6, not shown), the catch 10 abuts the plug 2 and the components of the piston assembly have been reversed. During an inward movement of the piston (Fig. 2), the liquid passes the groove 25 which acts as a flow restricting orifice. During an outward movement of the piston (Fig. 3), liquid can flow substantially unrestricted around the piston head 19 into the bore 27.
