Abstract
1,160,644. Tetradecyl silanes; polyethyleneoxy compounds. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 9 April, 1968 [24 April, 1967], No. 18782/67. Headings C3R and C3S. The invention comprises tetradecyl silanes of the general formula where A is a hydrolysable group other than halogen, R is a hydrocarbyl group and x is 0, 1 or 2. The hydrolysable groups may be alkoxy, aroxy and cycloalkoxy including polyether groups of the formula (OC y H 2y ) n OR<SP>1</SP> in which y is 2 or 3, n is 0 or an integer, and R<SP>1</SP> is a hydrocarbyl group which may be aminosubstituted. The groups A may also be acyloxy. The preparation of the silanes involves the reaction between tetradec-1-ene with a silane containing an Si-H bond and the resulting tetradecyl silane may, if required, be converted to other tetradecyl silanes, e.g. by esterinterchange, replacement of halo by hydrocarbyloxy by reaction with alcohols or phenols or by acyloxy by reaction with acids. Among a number of examples, the compound is prepared in Example 7 by reacting polyethylene glycol monomethyl ether of molecular weight 750 with n-tetradecyltriethoxy silane.
