Abstract
1,160,263. Hollow polymer filaments. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 6 Jan., 1967 [15 Oct., 1965], No. 43827/65. Heading B5B. Hollow filaments of polyamide or other meltspinnable polymer are produced by extruding the melt through two orifices contained in a spinneret plate, at least one of which orifices is essentially C or V-shaped, with the open ends of said orifices facing one another. One of the orifices may be inclined towards the other such that the axes of the orifices converge at a point below the spinneret plate, the preferred angle of inclination of the areas being between 5 and 15 degrees. Alternatively the filaments may be caused to coalesce by guide or other means acting on the filaments whilst they are in a tacky condition. Filaments with circular, trilobal or tetralobal cross-section are described.
