Abstract

1,156,443. #-Ionone. PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIKEN N.V. 16 Jan., 1968 [18 Jan., 1967], No. 2288/68. Heading C2C. #-Ionone is prepared by cyclizing pseudoionone by means of sulphuric acid in the presence of a saturated hydrocarbon which is gaseous at the reaction temperature used. Preferably, the reaction is carried out using propane, n-butane, isobutane or mixtures thereof at a temperature between the boiling- point of the hydrocarbon and +20‹ C. The process may be carried out continuously. If required a solvent, e.g. diisopropyl ether, acetone, acetic acid or methylethylketone, may be present.
