Abstract

1,155,566. Reciprocating pumps; vacuum motors. ARMSTRONG PATENTS CO. Ltd. July 6, 1966 [July 7, 1965], No.28722/65. Headings F1A and F1S. The plunger 34, 36 is reciprocated by alternate connection of a source of vacuum, e. g. an I. C. engine inlet manifold, and atmosphere to one side of a diaphragm 20 under the control of a sleeve valve 44 mounted on the plunger The sleeve valve 44 is moved with the plunger 34, 36 to alternately open and close a port 46, connected to atmosphere through a filter 50, and a port 48 connected to the source of vacuum. Diametrically opposed spring- loaded balls (76, Fig. 3, not shown), engage a pair of grooves (70, 72) in the sleeve valve to hold the valve resiliently in position closing port 46 or 48. With port 46 open the plunger bore 12 on either side of the sleeve valve 44 is connected by passages (62, 64) and a groove (60) in the pump body.
