Abstract
1,039,202. Valves. WESTINGHOUSE BRAKE & SIGNAL CO. Ltd. Dec. 15, 1964 [Jan. 23, 1964], No. 2897/64. Heading F2V. A valve closure element comprises a body portion 1 of rigid material over the end of which a resilient facing member 5 is snapped; and a hole 9 through the facing allows fluid trapped between the body and the facing to escape to atmosphere through the passage enclosed by a hollow seat 3. The body portion 1 is formed as a piston, and a passage 10 through the piston coincides with the hole 9 and so allows the piston to be pressure-balanced. A passage 11 constitutes the pressure inlet and the outlet is the passage surrounded by the valve seat 4. The closure is lifted by upward movement of the seat 3.
