Abstract
<PICT:1035852/C6-C7/1> In a washing machine, e.g. for cleaning machine parts, the material to be washed is fed by a helical conveyer through three zones in series in which it is (1) sprayed with detergent liquid, (2) spray rinsed and (3) dried by heating. Parts to be washed are fed by a stationary hopper 12 (Fig. 1, not shown) and vibrating hopper 13 (Fig. 1) to a rotating perforated drum 1 and through the drum 1 by a helix 11 (Fig. 4 not shown) fixed within it. In zones 15, 16, 17 they are respectively washed with detergent, rinsed with water and dried. The drum is rotated on rollers 3 and is provided with lifting baffles 30 (Figs. 4 and 5 not shown). The detergent and rinse water are sprayed from jet orifices in a stationary rigid pipe 19 within the drum 1, the pipe being blocked between the washing and rinsing zones and being fed with detergent at 28 and with water at 29. The drying in zone 17 is by electric heating bars mounted on insulating material 18. Partition assemblies 20, 21 (Fig. 7 not shown), which divide the drum 1 into the zones 15, 16, 17 are secured to the stationary pipe 19, each partition assembly comprising two pairs of flanges 22, 23 and rubber rings 24 which contact the inside of the helix. Bins for supplying to the drum 1 parts to be washed are themselves similarly washed in a tunnel 47 above the drum. The bins 49 (Fig. 3, not shown) are pushed mouth downwards along rollers 48 and spray treated from nozzles in a pipe 53. Used liquid from the bins and parts being cleaned is filtered at 39 (Fig. 3 not shown) as it drains into sumps 41, 42, is heated in the sumps at 43, 44 and recirculated.
