Abstract
1,035,316. Centrifugal and axial-flow fans. MATTHEWS & YATES Ltd. July 24, 1963 [July 26, 1962], No. 28719/62. Heading F1C. [Also in Division H2] A fan driving arrangement comprises a metallic drive member 6 driving or forming part of a fan impeller 1 and in which motion is induced by an adjacent stator 7 whose core 9 and windings 10 are constructed similarly to those of a linear electric motor. In the embodiment shown, the member 6 is an aluminium disc carried by the impeller shaft 4 and there are two 3Ph. stators 7 movable in frame slideways 8a to positions 7a in order to vary the impeller speed. In Figs. 3 and 4 the stator(s) co-operate directly with the steel or aluminium back plate of the impeller, in Figs. 5 and 6 with the steel cylindrical rim of an axial flow impeller, and in Fig. 7 with a non-ferrous metal woven belt passing between two pulleys on one of which is on the impeller shaft.
