In a method and apparatus for transporting flaked, fragmented or broken ice in chilled brine, e.g. on a fishing craft, the brine is pumped through pipe 8 by pump 7 from a refrigerated brine container 2 to a refrigerated ice silo 9, having a valved outlet 15 feeding a screw pump 16 which pumps the ice and brine mixture to utility points 22, 23, where the brine is separated from the ice and returned via pipes 24, 27 and pump 30 to brine container 2. Losses of brine are made up by the addition of water to brine container 2 via pipe 4, and addition of salt from charging arrangement 5.
