Abstract

1,033,325. Casting processes; moulds. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. March 12, 1964 [March 14, 1963], No. 10466/64. Heading B3F. [Also in Division H1] A mandrel, for use in the manufacture of a waveguide by the " lost-mandrel " process, is cast under negative pressure, e.g. 10 mm. Hg, from a bismuth-lead-tin-indium alloy having a melting point below 100‹ C. The two-part mould 15, 16, Fig. 1 (not shown), is made of brass and is enclosed in a closed box 10 connected to a vacuum pump. The metal is introduced into the mould through a conduit 12 incorporating a valve 13.
