1,028,439. Tentering-machines. K. BRUCKNER. Dec. 7, 1964 [Dec. 6, 1963], No. 49639/64. Heading D1S. A stretching, drying or setting device of the type in which the longitudinal edges of a web 1 of material are gripped by pin blocks 3 mounted on endless chains 2, comprises a finger roller 7 at each side of the web 1 on the input side of the chains 2 and the rotating fingers 7a, 7b, 7c thereof being provided with a helically threaded outer profile to draw the web 1 outwards; web overfeed or tension releasing means 4, 5, 6 between each finger roller 7 and the pin gripping point and including an upper roll 4, a lower roll 5 of smaller diameter and a shoe 6; and an additional finger 8 of smaller diameter than the fingers 7a, 7b, 7c disposed between each roller 7 and the overfeed means 4, 5, 6 immediately before the web edge enters the nip between the rolls 4, 5 and also provided with a helically threaded outer profile. The roll 4 comprises a brush 4a and a rubber roller part 4b. The overfeed means 4, 5, 6 corrugates the web 1 before it is gripped by the pins. The fingers 7a, 7c are driven in the opposite direction to the finger 7b by a drive 7d. The finger 8 is mounted on a support 7e and is driven by means 9 from the roller 7c. Alternatively, the finger 8 may be fixed and a push-rod 10 holds the web in contact with the finger 8.
