Abstract
1,026,806. Data transmission. WESTERN ELECTRIC CO. INCORPORATED. Nov. 15, 1962 [Nov. 29, 1961], No. 43190/62. Heading H4P. In a frequency-shift keying data transmission system mark and space bits gate one or the other, respectively, of two synchronous pulse trains which are so related that their difference frequency is an integral multiple of the bit frequency. At the receiver two further pulse trains are derived from the received signals, these trains corresponding to the first pulse trains. Both further pulse trains are fed to individual EXCLUSIVE OR circuits to which are also fed the received signals. The output of one of these OR circuits is inverted and combined with the output from the other circuit to reproduce the data signals. At the transmitter data signals S, Fig. 1 (not shown), pass direct to gate 14, and via an inverter to gate 15. These gates are also fed with pulse trains A, B, respectively; their outputs are combined and sent to the receiver. The received signal is passed to timing circuits, which comprise filters, amplifiers and clippers, to provide pulse trains A<SP>1</SP>, B<SP>1</SP>, corresponding to A, B at the transmitter. After clipping, the signal forms an input to both EXCLUSIVE OR gates 28, 29, which are also fed with A<SP>1</SP>, B<SP>1</SP> respectively. Their outputs C, E are combined, after inverting one of them, to provide waveform F, which corresponds to the original data.
