Abstract

1,025,734. Hay-tedders. C. VAN DER LELY N.V. Jan. 14, 1963 [Jan. 18, 1962], No. 1659/63. Heading A1F. In a rotary-drum tedder having at least two side-by-side frame sections 1, 2 each carrying a tined drum 4, 5 rotatable about a horizontal axis, each frame-section is provided with a hood (not shown) to surround part of the drum which rotates so that its tines move forwardly over the ground, the frame-sections being interconnected by a horizontal pivot 11 (Fig 2) which permits their relative movement over irregular ground. Each frame section is U- shaped in plan, the centre section having a forwardly-extenting rigid drawbar 13 and two lockable caster-wheels 15, 16. Each caster-wheel assembly is mounted on an arm 22 (Fig. 3) pivoted at 21 to the main beam 10. A lug 32 on the arm 22 is connected by a link 34 to a spindle 37 on an arm 40 rigid with a collar 42 on a vertical spindle 41 rotatable in bearings 43 on a rearwardly-extending limb, 11 or 12, of the centre frame-section. The spindle 41 is united with the pivot 71 by a junctionpiece 75. Each limb 11, 12 of the centre section 2 has an upwardly-extending spindle 93 connected by a link 94 to an arm 100 rigid with a shaft 101 (Figs. 2, 6) passing through the tubular main beam (e.g. 66) of the adjacent frame-section. The outer end of each outer frame-section carries a caster-wheel assembly (Fig. 6) on a parallel-linkwork, 102, 115 which is connected to the shaft 101, the arrangement being that each outer section can be swung, about the spindle 41 into the dotted position of Fig. 1 the links 34, 94 then causing the centre section to rise on its casters 15, 16 and the outer sections to raise on their casters 112, 121. The centresection rotor 5 is driven through a gear casing 63, from a stub-shaft 65 connected to the tractor, and through a gear-box 58, the outer sections being connected to the shaft 8 of the central rotor by couplings (Fig. 4, not shown) having squared male and female parts, the drive being automatically broken when the frame-sections are moved to transport-position. Detachable pivot-bolts 79 co-axial with the pivots 71 retain the frame-sections in transverse alignment without interfering with vertical movement of the sections. In Fig. 11 each hood 149 has an obliquely-extending screen 150 of rods to guide the discharged crop into a narrow swarth, the outer sections 4 being movable into the dotted position for transport.
