Abstract
1,019,010. Regulating I.C. engines STANDARD MOTOR CO. Ltd. Oct. 23, 1962, No. 40017/62. Heading F1B. In an I.C. engine control system the regulating action of a governor is modified to reduce the maximum fuel supply rate progressively as the engine speed setting of the governor increases to increase the rate of "torque backup" for a portion of the speed range. With speed increase movement of governor plate 11 in direction of arrow A is transmitted by rod 13, hook 14 and pin 15 to rotate lever 16 and fuel valve spindle 17. The governor speed setting is adjusted by rod 26 which rotates lever 20 and cam 27 to vary the bias applied by spring 24 to governor plate 11. Downward movement of governor plate 11 is transmitted through spring 18, sleeve 19 and pin 15 to rotate lever 16 counter-clockwise thus increasing the fuel supply until lever end 28 engages cam 27 after which further movement of governor plate 11 has no effect on the fuel metering valve. The control may be applied to fuel injection or carburetter engines. In a modification the setting of cam 27 may be adjusted manually by a flexible cable.
