Abstract
The invention is similar to that described in Specification 978,535, except that the gas to be purified is contacted by the carbonyl sulphide conversion catalyst (preferably between 200 DEG and 350 DEG C.) before being saturated with the water vapour for removing the soot in aqueous suspension. The catalyst is defined as one which catalyses one at least of the reactions:-COS + H2O --> H2S + CO2 COS + H2 --> H2S + CO. A specific example is described.
