Abstract

A wax comprising carnauba wax, paraffin wax, raw linseed oil and turpentine and a polish containing Montan wax, Ozokerite and paraffin wax each contain dibenziodolium iodide as a disinfectant. A soap composition comprising an aqueous coconut oil soap solution, and a small amount of a polyoxyethylene sorbitol lanolin derivative, also contains dibenziodolium iodide as a germicide.ALSO:Dibenziodolium iodide is prepared by diazotizing 2,21 - diaminobiphenyl and treating with potassium iodide. The compound is used as a disinfectant (see Division A5).ALSO:Antibacterial and antifungal compositions comprise an inert carrier and dibenziodolium iodide. The compositions may be formulated as solutions e.g. in dimethyl sulphoxide, sulpholanes acetone or polyethylene glycol for impregnating absorbent materials e.g. bandages, surgical dressings, sutures, sanitary napkins, plasters, underpads, lavatory tissue, facial tissue and clothing; waxes; polishes; paints; detergents; shampoos; plaster casts and plaster bandage comprising surgical crinoline and plaster of parts; deodorant sticks; aftershave sticks; soaps; cosmetics and compositions for topical application in human and veterinary medicine e.g. powders, ointments, creams, solutions, suspensions or aerosols.
