Abstract

1,015,698. Fixing turbine or compressor blades. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. July 3, 1964 [Oct. 24, 1963], No. 27529/64. Heading FIT. In a turbine or compressor bladed rotor wherein the roots of a ring of blades are retained in a dovetail groove extending circumferentially round the rotor drum, at least one locking lug is provided to prevent circumferential movement of the blades, the or each lug being located in a locking slot extending transversely of the groove and being provided with a jacking member which is operable to move the or each lug radially outwardly so that axially spaced (with respect to the rotor drum) end walls of eared portions of the or each lug engage the dovetail sides of the groove, circumferentially spaced side walls of the or each lug engage load bearing surfaces of the or each locking slot, and an upper portion of the or each lug is received in a cutout formed in the abutting edges of two adjacent blade platforms. As shown, two lugs 54, one shown in Fig. 1, are provided to lock a ring of blades 42 having their roots 52 retained in a groove 14 formed in an enlarged portion 12 of the rotor drum 10, the groove 14 having two locking slots 30 each formed with load bearing surfaces 32. Each lug, Fig. 2, includes a jacking screw 68 located in a threaded hole extending therethrough, an upper portion 56, side walls 62, and eared portions 64 having end walls 66. The blade roots and the two lugs are loaded into the groove 14 through a slot 28 located between the two locking slots 30. The blade platforms 46 are received in an annular channel 16. Four adjacent blade platforms 40a-40d located over the loading and locking slots are, as shown in Fig. 6, provided with left and right-hand contents forming two rectangular openings 50a, 50b. Each lug jacking screw 68 is operated so that its radially inner end bears on the bottom 24, Fig. 1, of the groove 14 to move each lug radially outwards until lug surfaces 66 abut the groove dovetail walls 22, whereupon lug side walls 62 engage the locking slot load bearing surfaces 32, and the upper portions 56 of the lugs 54a, 54b, Fig. 6, engage in the openings 50a, 50b.
