Abstract
1,006,255. Electromagnetic relays. THERMOSEN Inc. Sept. 7, 1962 [Sept. 11, 1961], No. 34368/62. Heading H2B. A relay has a polepiece associated with a plurality of reed armatures co-operating with fixed contacts, the polepiece, armatures, and contacts being in a common enclosure separate from the energizing coil. Each reed armature 20 co-operates with fixed contacts on blades 26, 28, and is adjacent one of the spokes of a spoked polepiece 18. The polepiece 18, armatures 20, contact blades 26, 28 are in an enclosure 24 which is evacuated or filled with an inert gas through a tube 36. The wall 60 of the enclosure may be of brass, iron, glass or plastic. The coil 22 is within a magnetic casing 56 between a support 54 of the casing and the top 58 of enclosure 24. The fixed contact blades are made from phosphor-bronze or beryllium copper and the reeds from iron or silicon-iron alloy. The reeds and contact blades are either plated with gold or silver or the contacts carried thereby are made of arc-resisting tungsten or molybdenum alloys. The change-over contact sets shown may be replaced by normally open or normally closed sets and the terminals 42 may be in the form of plugs. Each relay may have two polepieces each co-operating with an array of contacts. The coil and cone may be centrally disposed in an annular contact enclosure.
