Abstract
1,004,014. Rotary-scythe mowers. A. E. ELLIS. Feb. 5, 1964 [Feb. 16, 1963], No. 4821/64. Heading A1F. A rotary-scythe mower has its sideplates 11 formed as skids so that they prevent scalping if the mower travels over bumps. The machine has the usual wheels 12 which are adjustably mounted on the side-plates and the height of cut may additionally be adjustable by shims 31 on the cutter spindle 16. In an alternative construction, the wheels 12 are replaced by rollers 20 within the mower housing, the side-plates 11alpha then having longitudinal slots 21 for the escape of cuttings. The rollers are mounted on cranks 22 pivoted to the side plates, one crank on each roller being extended by a handle 24 engageable with a detent 27 on the flat upper platform of the mower, to adjust the height of the rollers. The rollers may be split laterally to facilitate manoevrability.
