Abstract

1,003,920. Reel-mounting device. E. MORRIS, [trading as WALMORE ENGINEERING CO.]. Oct. 29,1963 [Nov. 15, 1962], No. 43169/62. Heading D1J. A rotatable device for supporting reels of varying diameters and lengths comprises a conical body having longitudinal ribs A forming effectively a cylindrical hub and provided at one end with a truncated conical portion a which is adapted to contact one peripheral edge of the bore of a reel 1, and at the other end with spring-loaded toggle levers BB<SP>1</SP> which are adapted to contact the other peripheral edge of the bore of the reel. The reel support is mounted for rotation with the reel during winding or unwinding by means of bearings a<SP>2</SP>,a<SP>3</SP> on a spindle a<SP>1</SP>. Wire being unwound from the reel 1 passes over a pulley c<SP>3</SP> which is pivotally mounted in such a way that the action of a brake a<SP>8</SP> acting upon a flange a<SP>7</SP> of the device is controlled in dependence upon the tension in the wire. A further brake c<SP>6</SP> may be employed to apply a constant predetermined braking action to the flange a<SP>7</SP> to tension the wire being unwound from the reel 1. In a modification (Fig. 4 not shown) the toggle levers may be hydraulically loaded.
