Abstract

1,003,609. Cleaning apparatus. AMERICAN STERILIZER CO. Feb. 12, 1964 [Feb. 12, 1963], No. 5845/64. Heading A5R. An apparatus for surgically scrubbing surgeons' hands, and arms, comprises an enclosure 20 into which arm 25 is inserted, and a nozzle ring 15 having nozzles 16 and surrounding the arm 25, the nozzles 16 discharging airless jets of alcohol and suspended abrasive particles. The nozzle ring 15 is moved back and forth along the arm by reciprocating bar 18. The abrasive particles are dispersed in alcohol by agitator 4 driven by motor 3, the alcohol in container 1 being maintained under pressure. Used alcohol and abrasive is returned from enclosure 20 to container 1 via valve 26 and pump 27. To prevent an explosive alcohol-air mixture being formed within the enclosure 20, a gas such as nitrogen is supplied from reservoir 23. The apparatus may be used to apply jets of alcohol alone by switching off motor 3.
