Abstract

1,091,387. Opening containers; packages. SWISS ALUMINIUM Ltd. Aug. 3, 1966 [Aug. 9, 1965]. No. 34831/66. Heading B83 and B8D. A tear-thread 5 encircles a central portion 10 of the lid of a sealed container and is provided with a tab (9), Fig. 2, so that the container may be opened by causing the thread 5 to cut through the lid round the top of a rib 7. The central portion 10 may be replaced after the container is opened. The lid and container body may be of plastics material, e.g. polyethylene, or of aluminium foil, and are heat-sealed together by means of a polyethylene coating on a body flange 2 and annular lid portion 4. The ends of the thread 5, which is formed of twisted strands of synthetic polyester material, may emerge through the seal at spaced points so that the lid is not entirely removed. The body wall may have a ledge (6), Fig. 1, providing a seating for the lid. The body and lid may be of circular, oval or rectangular shape in plan view.
