1,091,289. Cleaning heat-exchangers. COMBUSTION ENGINEERING Inc. Sept. 29, 1965 [Oct. 20, 1964 (2)], No. 41436/65. Heading F2N. [Also in Division F4] A slag layer is removed from the tubes forming a furnace wall by introducing a fluid through holes 14 in the web 13 between the tubes to spread over the furnace walls behind the slag layer. A deflector welded to the tubes prevents air jets piercing the slag. The holes and deflector may be replaced by a T-pipe directing fluid from its ends up and down the web behind the slag. In furnaces without inter-tube webs, the fluid is introduced between the tubes from a pressure chamber within the furnace lining 8. Fluid is fed to the cleaning device intermittently so that a continuous layer of slag is formed before its removal.
