Abstract
In the steam cracking of C2-C24 saturated hydrocarbons to obtain unsaturated products there is added 1-30 p.p.m. (based on hydrocarbon) of sulphur or a decomposable sulphur compound; this inhibits carbon monoxide formation and caburization of the reactor. The pyrolysis of ethane to ethylene is exemplified.
