Abstract
1,088,804. Subaqueous base for marine structures. CHRISTIANI & NIELSEN A. S. March 22, 1966 [Oct. 29, 1965], No..12541/66, Heading E1H. A support for a caisson 1 to be submerged onto the submarine bed 3 to serve as a base for a column 2 rising out of the water, comprises three hollow and downwardly open columns 5 which project from beneath the underside of the base 1, the cavity of the columns 5 being connected by tube 6 to abovesurface machinery by means of which the hydrostatic pressure in the columns may be reduced. By arranging the connection between the columns 5 and the machinery so that the reduction of the hydrostatic pressure is made separately in each column the pressure difference between the outside and the inside of the columns will cause the column to be pressed further down into the submarine bed to adjust the structure vertically. Considerable force can be exerted by the pressure difference particularly in great depths of water. The base or caisson 1 may be supported by four or more columns.
