Abstract
1,086,655. Pivots. AMERICAN HOME PRODUCTS COOPERATION. Aug. 25, 1965 No. 36580/65. Heading E2F. A slidable nylon bearing member 17 for a lower pivot pin of a folding door moves :o and is locked in a desired position on a bracket 22 fixed to the door frame when a pinion 34 supported in an upper fixture 30 is pressed inwardly against a spring 35 and rotated by a screw-driver, the pinion teeth intermeshing with teeth 38 on an extension 26 of the member 17. When the screw-driver is removed the pinion support 37 opposite the spring [35] end of the pinion engages the teeth thereof and thus locks the sliding member. In a modification. Fig. 6 (not shown) the internal spring 35 is replaced by internal and external springs 45, 46 at one end of the pinion while a toothed section 47 axially spaced from the main pinion engages the pinion support opposite the springs, thus allowing adjustment to be performed from either side of the door. In both embodiments, the downwardly depending pivot pin 16, Fig. 3 (not shown) is accommodated by a recess elongated lengthwise of the member 17, said recess having upper and lower seat portions 40, 42 with which a shoulder 41 on the pin engages in order to facilitate opening and closing of the door.
