Abstract

Compounds of the Formula (I) <FORM:1086326/C2/1> (in which R2 and R3 are both 1-8C-alkyl groups or R2 and R3 together with the adjacent C atoms form a cyclobutane, cyclopentane, cyclohexane or tetrahydropyran ring; R is a group -NR4.NHR5, in which R4 is H or a phenyl or an alkoxy or aralkoxy substituted phenyl group, and R5 is a phenyl or an alkoxy- or aralkoxy-substituted phenyl group, or an anilino or substituted anilino group; and R1 is a group COR or a carboxy or an esterified carboxy group, or where R2 and R3 are other than 1-8C-alkyl, H) are prepared by reacting a diacid halide of the formula <FORM:1086326/C2/2> where X is a halogen atom, with a hydrazine HNR4.NHR5 or aniline or an appropriately substituted aniline in the presence of an acid binding agent, or by converting an appropriate diacid to its diester, hydrolysing this to its half-ester converting this to the half-ester halide and then reacting it with an appropriate aniline or hydrazine. Pharmaceutical compositions having anti-inflammatory activity comprise compounds (I) and a carrier therefor. The compositions may be in a form suitable for parenteral or topical administration.
