Abstract

[Also in Division B4] A clutch grip wrench screwdriver, drill or tapping device comprises an actuating sleeve 1 provided with a hand grip 2 and a rotatable engaging member 3 arranged inside the sleeve and adapted to co-operate with a bolt screw, drill or tapping device, said engaging member 3 having a cylindrical portion 5 on which is frictionally secured a combined locking and driving member comprising a helical spring 6 of rectangular section, one end 7 of the spring being anchored in the sleeve 1 so that rotation of the handle in one direction causes the spring to be tightened on the cylinder, rotation in the opposite direction causing loosening of the grip of the spring on the cylinder, the spring having an abutment face 9 abutting an adjustable stop 10 which is adjustable about the periphery of the sleeve. The stop 10 is arranged on a collar which is inserted in the sleeve 1 and provided with a handle which is actuated simultaneously with the hand grip 2. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the collar 11 is arranged on the same side of the sleeve as the engaging stud of the engaging member, an adjustable screw (15) being arranged between the hand grip (2) and handle (14) to act as a torque restricter. In another modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), the sleeve is in two half cylinders, the friction cylinder (5) being provided with two driving springs (6, 61) having projections (7, 7<SP>1</SP>) which face each other and allow the friction cylinder to be driven in one or the opposite direction by rotation of the sleeve (1). A common abutment means (16) for both the abutment faces (9, 9<SP>1</SP>) of the springs, has camlike projections 10, 10<SP>1</SP> which by means of an arm 17, projecting through a slot in the sleeve (1) can be selectively engaged with one or other of the abutment faces (9, 9<SP>1</SP>).
