Abstract

[Also in Division F4] In a dry latrine having a burner 23 in the bowl 17, a valve 36 is lowered during combustion periods to restrict air flow through the bowl to that through posts 39 so that offensive odours are avoided, and raised after a set combustion period to allow a larger cooling air flow. The timer for the valve control is linked to the seat cover 63 so that the burner is lit and the valve 39 louvered when the seat lid is shut. A heat insulated shield 76, linked to the valve control prevents over beating of the seat during the combustion period, and opening the cover 63 during a combustion period cuts off the burner 23 and resets the timer to restart the combustion when the cover 63 is again lowered.
