Abstract
1,082,906. Filter disc sectors. T. W. McNEIL. Oct. 27, 1966 [Oct. 29, 1965], No. 45880/65. Heading B1D. A filter element of sectoral shape (Fig. 1, not shown), which is intended to form part of one of the inward flow rotary disc elements in a vacuum disc filter for de-watering coal slurries, comprises a pheripheral frame 11 faced by two flat panels of wedge wire 15. The wedge wires may be plastics or stainless steel and extend 'chordwise' across the sector. Their ends are welded to strips 17 which are secured to frame 11 by screws 18 or bolts, and inner supporting cross bars 16 are also welded to wires 15. The panels are spaced apart by plates 21 welded into apertures therein, plates 21 being connected by screws 22 or bolts, with or without spacer sleeves 23 (Fig. 4, not shown). The spacing between wires 15 may increase radially outwards. The elements in use are mounted to rotate about a horizontal axis and vacuum applied to their interiors is broken at one point for discharging the solids.
